Sowing Seeds of Community

Voices of Her/Their Story: Community Storytelling March 2026

Winter seems to be keeping its cold claws in us, doesn’t it? It can sometimes be hard to imagine spring when our lives keep getting whipped by a cold wind that seems to grow only more vicious the longer it blows. But spring does come, as Ada Limón writes in “Instructions on Not Giving Up” like a fist to an open palm. It takes slow, patient care but we can build spring in this winter. And you all are doing that.

Thank you to everyone who heard our community storytellers last month, Anna, Fatma and Lyla, who brought stories about facing the truths of the people we love even when it hurts, following dreams across continents, and building a life made with art. This is how we make community–we keep showing up to listen, to witness, and to remember.

This month, we will plant hope for the future and reflect on the ways that we collectively shape the world around us. The seeds we sow, seeds of community care, of collective responsibility, of our own agency, must also be watered and cared for. It is also important that we spend this time weeding out the invasive species of doubt and despair that make it harder for our seeds to grow.

Thank you patient gardeners for the care you take as we plant the seeds of liberation and community for the future.

April Reflection Prompts

How do you sow the seeds of the community you wish to see? What does that look like as a daily practice?

Who can you invite into that daily work?
