Seeking Rest

Walking through Misty’s garden, Aug. 2025

We have dedicated this July to seeking rest. We hope you are, too.

Life has a way of tumbling forward so fast, like a kid somersaulting down a grassy hill, the momentum building and building until (often) there’s some kind of crash at the bottom. While it can be exhilarating, it also can mean that we aren’t gearing up for the long haul. Community takes work, absolutely, but it also needs us to be whole people. Not endlessly dizzy from the whirling sky and grass above us as we let life fling us downhill.

So, please take this time to be intentional with your rest. Whatever that can look like for you: a snooze on the couch, extra wind down time at night, or getting up earlier so you can read a book with your morning coffee–rest can have many forms. Just make sure you take it. This is our life and we should pause to enjoy it.

July Reflection Prompt

Find your inner Tricia Hersey and find somewhere soft to close your eyes. Don’t just do it once, but several times, create pockets of rest. Try to have at least one be a time where you don’t set an alarm or in any way limit this time. If you need the rest, then take it. It’s not about deserving rest, it’s about being human and honoring all it took to get you here on this planet by slowing your breathing and closing your eyes.
