Join the Abundance this September
Off the Trail’s corn braid from June 2026.
September came slowly this year marked by cool winds, the sound of falling acorns and the smell of apples piled high in roadside stands.
Like many folks this past summer we at Third Space tried our collective hand in gardening. Even with inexpert hands, our garden overflowed: peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, tomatillos. An incredible assortment grown by many hands to be shared together.
We invite you this month into the abundance. Abandon the idea that we live in a world of scarcity. We know there are people who burble that idea to fill their own pockets and it is in their best financial interest for us to keep to ourselves. When we instead join together: in joy, food, collective rage or even curiosity; we make our world stronger and more resilient.
Every fall, the Oneida invite people in the community to harvest white corn, a crop that has been a part of their lives for two thousand years. Each stalk must be harvested by hand. After each ear is husked, three leaves are kept so they can be braided together into one large braid made of 65 ears. Each braid is made with many hands and is preserved and dried to be used throughout the year for sustenance and as a reminder of what we can all do together.
September Reflection Prompt
This month is a great time to spend some time reflecting on the abundances in your life and invite your loves to a shared meal together.
